Let us pray

O God, who raised up St. Pio of Pietrelcina as a dramatic sign of your presence in the middle of a most painful and difficult century, grant that we who seek his intercession and follow his holy example may experience the same profound conversion through his prayers today as did thousands who were graced by his priestly ministry during his time on earth. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

[Make the sign of the cross]

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  Amen

Padre Pio's Story

Nearly half a century ago, following the miraculous healing of their daughter attributed to Padre Pio, the Calandra family established the National Centre for Padre Pio. Today, this center has earned recognition from the Holy See for its dedication to preserving and promoting the legacy of Padre Pio, focusing on his life, stigmata, teachings, and deeds. I encourage you to visit their website to explore more about the inspiring work of the National Centre and the enduring impact of Padre Pio’s ministry.

Jesus handpicked Padre Pio for a divine distinction, making him the first priest to bear the sacred stigmata, a profound emblem of shared suffering.

Padre Pio, an Italian priest canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church, was famous for bearing the stigmata, which are wounds resembling those of Christ at the Crucifixion. He received these visible marks on his hands, feet, and side in 1918 and bore them for 50 years until his death in 1968. Despite skepticism and numerous investigations by the Church, these wounds were said to never have healed or become infected. Padre Pio himself was somewhat reticent about these marks but considered them a symbol of his union with Christ’s suffering. His stigmata, along with his reputed spiritual gifts like healing and bi-location, contributed significantly to his reputation as a holy man.
